30 September 2010

notes, farts, and does.

notes:
yesterday one of my sweet little guys walked up to the back table where i was sitting and grabbed a little slip of paper.
he looked at me while he was doing it like, "you did not just see me take that.  don't ask what i am going to do with it.  just pretend you didn't see me."
so of course i asked him, "what do you need that for?"
"i need to write a note."
"to who?" [thinking it would be to one of his friends--we will have a time for letters and right before math isn't the time.]
"to you."
"okay, well hurray up it's time for math."  [how much could he write--the slip was like 1/2 a small post-it note.]

then i started singing
"everybody find a seat,
find a seat, find a seat.
everybody find a seat right on the floor."
[to the tune of "shortnin' bread"]

and he dropped that off to me.
and i read it and almost cried.

"dear miss kendrick
thank you for being a nice teacher to us and we like you"
[this is the same sweet boy that wrote the journal entry with boy's name is my friend! and girl's name too!...etc. see here.]

farts:
yes.  sometimes these little chunkers fart.
it is hilarious.  and i almost die but i have to look down and keep going.  it's not acceptable. but it is so funny.
so today the kids were working on their centers [which means it is quiet time] and my funny boy let one rip.  and i almost lost it but i just looked up and said {name} we don't do that in the classroom. and then i put my head down before he could see me burst out laughing.  he's so cute!

then i had my facilitator/mentor teacher [aka my "boss", not the principal boss] come in and model a lesson for me.  so the class is all sitting on the carpet quietly and attentively and then another boy let one rip.  i was sitting in a chair at the back of the carpet and i seriously was biting my tongue like there was no tomorrow.

oh kids.

does:
it's been awhile since i've seen a deer prancing around. maybe because i haven't been running often or far enough to the normal spot i see them.
and i'm not at byu walking up the hill where missy and i saw the pregnant one like everyday munching on leaves.
it was quite a pleasant surprise to see this doe just prancing through the street close to my apartment.  taking her sweet, precious time.  which is why i snapped a photo.

i'm just loving life.

em and dana and claire bear are allllllmost here. like they should have been 10 minutes ago.
yeah!

22 June 2010

and one more thing about dad.

text conversation with paparupa
tuesday, 22 June 2010, 3.45 pm

dad: where's louis?
me: who's that or what is that from?

[most of dad's texts are movie one-liners. like his favorite from nacho libre, "did you tell them they were the Lord's chips?"]

dad: the movie leap year. they are referring to her louis vuitton luggage
me: oooooh i haven't seen it. is it good?
dad: i like it. i like chick flicks
me: you have no choice but to like them
dad: it's randi with an i

i love him. my funny dad.

chopsticks

i still haven't mastered the art of eating with chopsticks.
not sure i ever will.
i only use them when i go to benihana (which is like once a year, maybe), gurus, and when my fam gets chinese take out (but i don't live at home anymore and come to think of it, the picker upper never picks up chopsticks. hmm.)

anyway, i am lacking in the chopstick area.

that is beside the point.

the point is:
the other day when corrie and i had taken jennie to gurus,
i said, "ha, there's a misspelled word on these chopstick instructions."
to which corrie replied, "there's a misspelled word on EVERY chopstick wrapper ever made. always." (or something to that effect.)
it was funny. and i laughed.
and i flipped the wrapper to the front. and found that interesting spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar mess.

my favorite part?
"...Chinese glonous history. and cultural"
what?

remember whens...

should be doing homework but just saw this post from dana.

{most of hers are family / sister "remember whens..." but some are just between em and d.}

a few i would like to add. {and some are just heidi - erin}

remember boob chips?

remember "emily, do you want a ticket?"

remember when we played log ride in the bath?

remember when we took baths together?

remember "whoop! awww." during shower games?

remember recording "mr. sandman" at the rock and roll hall of fame. and it was horrible?

remember bear wood forest?

remember how bear wood forest sold anything and everything from lipstick to cruises?

remember how i really need to be doing homework right now so i can get more than 5 hours of sleep?

as dana said...leave some of your remember when's too.

{like corrie: remember when my windshield wiper wiped a little too far--like off the windshield?}
{and lyndi: remember that one bus trip in munich? [enough said...] and the german boys?}
{and claire / steph: remember when we caught a lizard and named it brainless? {or steph insulted it and then we decided to keep that as his name?} and remember how we hid it in the boys room?}

like marshmallows?

then try these.

extra giant pink & white marshmallows.
buy them here.

i haven't actually had them.
but em has...

let us first take note of the size of these marshmallows.
they are huge. super gigante.
em's holding a regular marshmallow--not a mini--and a giant one.
big difference, eh?

then i made her stuff it in her mouth. well, i asked her to try. and taped it on the phone. and she agreed to it. but she said "don't put this on your blog!" and i said "yeah yeah". too bad we're 800 miles apart, sister! you just gotta share these things when they happen. the world needs to see.

also, joe stuffed it in his mouth in one shot.

#200

to celebrate post #200, i'm going to share 200 reasons why paper moon is the best.

or not. life is completely right crazy now.
mostly because i took the weekend off so i didn't get anything done.
i've been playing catch up.
also because i have 3 midterms next week on top of all the same homework that i normally have and i can barely get that done as it is.
and i'm still training for my marathon--miles increase next week {but i'm more than happy to be doing the marathon training.}

but, i'm in my wednesday evening class, so i just take time to check out some blogs and do any assignments that i can during this hour and forty-five minutes...and post a little somethin' somethin'.

so i'll share a hilarious story.

you see this pitbull?
today i was running past the side of this house.
enjoying my music.
enjoying my run.
thinking about life.

all of a sudden, some pitbull comes jetting out at me.
literally, this dog was coming straight for me at full speed.

so the parasympathetic nervous system kicked in:
fight or flight?
i'd liked to say i chose fight.
but pretty much i was already in flight.
but my first instinct was to scream.
and i did.
like so loud.
and then i started laughing.
because i thought about what had just happened.
and really, it was just hilarious.
and i was laughing for the rest of my run.
{and just so you know, the dog just ran right behind me. then turned around and went back to his home.}

and i am trying so hard not to laugh in my class right now.
blasted dog.
bucky would never do that.
{unless it's right after his summer shave, after he's become a man and has total confidence. but even then, he wouldn't hurt a fly.}

you can have your cake

and wear it too
remember when you had a barbie cake for your bday party?
i do.
didn't get one?
no fear...
you can have one at your wedding.
or be one.
wedding dress cake photo courtesy of: twig & thistle
{found this here}

namely, me.

provo: it's not as bad as you think.

maybe i'm just saying that for myself.

there's a lot of fun, neat, and interesting people here.
and i mean interesting as in different from me and as in maybe they're a little bit crazy. but isn't that what makes life interesting.

c.w.w.m.s.a.f.

{jcrew.gap.and...}

4. 1.5 - 2 hours in anthropologie.

sisters.

5. tumbling gym.

erin did this pose one crazy night over summer.
i was thrilled to see her improved version on a trampoline.
you go girl.

tumbling sisters {not} in action.
no pictures of the sling-shot swing we made. bungees.
i thought i was going to shoot into the wall.
it was amazing.

and i injured my foot because i jumped off the trampoline
thinking i was still on it. ouch. painful. and i have been unable
to run this whole week. and i am starting to get depressed.
and i see people running and i get so sad. {and i, and i, and i}.

up next: heidi's conference report.
until then...check out alissa's hilarious video.

30 September 2009

treadmill.

sometimes it's wishful wednesday.
sometimes it's flashback friday.
and sometimes i just do whatever i want.
today: flashback wednesday.

but first: yesterday was the last day i will be wearing shorts
probably until the spring. except for my nike's.
it was also 85 yesterday. and pretty nasty out.
today? oh you know, 45, rain,
snow in the mountains. how does the weather
change THAT much in less than one day?
i.do.not.know.

The Treadmill

Once upon a time, about 2 years ago, Erin and I had this fabulous plan to go to the gym at 6.15 am on Tuesday mornings. 6 am the alarm would ring, I would roll out of bed, throw on some clothes, brush my teeth and the two of us would be out the door. I was usually still half asleep, and sometimes (back in the day when 6 hours of sleep was not standard or good) if I did not get enough sleep the night before, my vision was not what you would call accurate.

If my memory serves me right, then it was the first day of our new Tuesday morning routine that this story unfolds. Erin and I got on treadmills next to each other. She started hers out, going pretty slow because it was still warming up. The tv did not work on mine so I could not watch the morning news. I decided to switch treads. Often times I will just step on the unoccupied treadmill next to me. Ha. I stepped on Erin's treadmill, not the motionless side but the belt.

The rest was a blur. Step-slip-back-butt-ground. What?
Did that really just happen?
Did I really just fall off a treadmill?
Did Erin really not notice until some kind lady came rushing over?

YES.
Yes it did.

Alas, fear not. She was the only person behind the treads who could have possibly seen. There were no workers that saw. I think I had a bruise.

Lessons learned: Don't ever do that again.
Also, make sure you are awake and coherent before going to the gym.

The End.

friday flashbacks*

{slash a 4.30 pm brain break [almost done!]}

*this post will not include a photograph due to the disgust i have generated for these creatures over the years

it all began on a sunday morning
many years ago...
{let's just say i was somewhere
around the age of 6.}

the family had a nice breakfast together.
we listened to the mo tab.
we watched the sunday morning session
of General Conference.

the session ended.
we did some stuff
{i do not recall what "stuff" entailed}.
the next session began.
us girls went outside to play
when what did our wandering
eyes behold?
a crippled moth.

we had to save him.

we donned ourselves in
dad's old white dress shirts,
a.k.a. our lab coats.
we set up our lab table,
a.k.a. the picnic table.
we called him G, Project G.

for two hours we did all we could.
tweezers.
toothpicks.
Q-tips.
water.
maybe even band aids
{it's been awhile, i don't remember}.

we went in to hear the Prophet speak.
{which would have been Ezra Taft Benson
at the time--I was too young to remember that}

30 minutes later we returned.
dead and gone
well, still there
just dead.
it was heart breaking.

and now erin is afraid of butterflies.
remember when she freaked out because we drove through like
6 of them altogether
and they were hitting the front of the car?
but i don't blame her.

09.09.09

some neat facts for 09.09.09.
09.09.09 falls on a wednesday in september, both of which have 9 letters.
09.09.09 is the 252nd day in the year. 2+5+2 = 9.
09.09.09 today the Beatle's entire music collection comes out digitally mastered.

and another 09.09.09 treat

labor day weekend update:
rafting/tubing on the provo river.
sometimes i forget how beautiful utah is. {probably because i just think of being frozen and not seeing the sun for 5 months.} i just floated along {in the freezing water, actually it wasn't too much colder than hb ocean water} and stared in awe as we floated through the canyon at the beauty of all the green trees that cascade the mountains. and i got super excited for fall because i love love the colors of autumn. {and pumpkin pie. and my bday. i'll save that for another time.}
life vests.
team 17.
this one is for you, erin.
or this.
