a few notes

hello provo {friends & citizens},

farmers market starts this saturday, 15 may. 9am - 2pm at pioneer park (500 west 100 south).
i'll be there with a flower in my hair. well, maybe. but i will be there filling my bike basket with all sorts of greens, as there won't be much fruit until next month. but if there is, you better believe my basket will be full of that too.

***
hello provo {weather},

what's going on? you're beautiful a few days, you're gloomy and rainy and cold or snowy a few days. are you having a difficult time transitioning to spring? the tulips and daffodils weren't enough to woo you? or you just don't want the snow-capped mountains gone so you keep bringing it back every few days, is that it? just so you know, i'm not ok with this whole weather pattern. especially the 36 degrees and rain today--not cool {literally, yes it was cool. rather cold actually}. weatherman predicts 70s this weekend. will you promise?

***
hello scholastic warehouse,

i love you. 50% off all of your books? yes. and $25 off $100 spent? yes. hello classroom library. super cute books. and so many books to use for my lessons. love, love, love.

strawberries

love, love, love
strawberries.

so much that i ate too many and had a horrendous allergic reaction (hives) to them in 7th grade. that was a horrible year--no strawberries. then i tried them the next year and the body said they were once again welcome. hallelujah.

and mom has to put a cap on the amount of strawberries i eat when i'm at home.
sorry, mom.

so i bring to you a little video.
just click here.
it's only 1 minute and 45 seconds
and will change your life forever.
it's not to deter you from eating strawberries, no i would never do that, rather to deter you from eating unwashed [or unproperly washed] strawberries.
enjoy.

showdown:

water

vs.
coke

now, i haven't had a soda since my jr. year in high school--at least, that's the last time i can think that i would have had one so it could have been earlier than that.
i just don't like it. i'm not into sugary drinks.
and the carbonation hurts.
so i hate soda. hate it.

and i love water. it's all i drink.

so naturally, when i saw this email in my inbox from grandma, i was pretty intrigued.
just a bunch of facts about water and coke.

i'm happy to say i knew all of the water ones just from reading and taking nutrition classes, and you probably have heard of/read most of them yourself. but the coke ones were interesting and surprising--and i'm sure will prove to be pretty useful for next months cleaning checks.

so i share them with you.

water

{one}
75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half the world population)

{two}
In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

{three}
Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

{four}
One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

{five}
Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

{six}
Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

{seven}
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

{eight}
Drinking 8 [i say 10, more if you work out] glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should drink every day?

coke

[one]
In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

[two]
You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.

[three]
To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

[four]
To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

[five]
To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

[six]
To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

[seven]
To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

[eight]
To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

(one)
The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

(two)
To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial trucks must use a "hazardous material" place card reserved for highly corrosive materials.

(three)
The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

rain clouds & popcorn

this morning i woke up to rain.
i was half expecting:
weather.com said it was coming,
but they have also been forecasting a lot of snow
which never comes. which i am so grateful for.

so when i opened the door with all my running gear on
and saw the rain, i was slightly sad.
but then i ate peanut butter toast with yogurt and bananas on top and finally took down all of the christmas decorations. and cleaned the kitchen. and vacuumed.
and then i went running.
in my running skirt!
it was like 45-50 degrees out.
which i looooooved.

and then i showered.
and then i made some good stir fry for a late lunch.

and then i popped some popcorn.

just put kernels in a brown lunch sack and pop for a few minutes--just listen, you'll know when it's done. i like mine absolutely plain. but you can put salt & butter or pepper or parmesan or whatever you desire on afterward.
so gooooood.
healthy snack.
[unless of course you pour on the butt-tt-tt-er]
