petri baby

yesterday i was reading aloud to the class "mammals: true or false?"  it's this neat little book with questions/statements that give the answer and explanation after.

so we read the page, "most mammals are born alive. true or false?"

they answer, "TRUE!"

the answer said, "true! almost all mammals give birth to live babies." and we read the little explanation and it said that they grow inside their mother and lalala.

then one of my kids says, "not me!  i was made in a petri dish and then put inside my mom!"

it took every part of my being to not bust out laughing.  it was hilarious.
this is the same boy that told me 2 weeks ago that his mother was going to get a tummy tuck and some other procedure (i can't remember).  a few days later, he told me his dad was coming to parent teacher conferences instead of his mom because she was having surgery, i asked him, "oh why is your mom getting surgery?" (because in 2nd grade you can get away with asking questions like that). he responded with a deer in headlights look. and i said, "oh you can't say. that's okay!  i hope everything goes well!"
(yes, this is also the boy that had half his body weight in his head when he was a baby and had to roll down the hall.)

27 March 2011

perhaps one the best weekends yet.
better than my engagement.

in california.
at home.

we went to the place we will be getting married for time & all eternity.
and it was beautiful.

the families met.
and they love each other.

steven's parents snapped 697 engagement photos.
we're just that attractive.
{ha.}

and we're still in love.
more in love.

48 days.
{not that i'm counting.}

[erin + mike: 13 days]

stay tuned for pictures...

KITE

i've always thought kites were super cute.
then steven proposed to me while we were flying kites.
and now my view of kites has forever changed.

i made this ol' thing today.
isn't she a beaut?

please excuse...
1) phone quality.
2) my grossness
3) the messy living room.

in other news...james danger is leaving my classroom.  he'll be gone latest next friday.  i sent home a note and a girl's mom called me saying they want him.  well, we'll just see if she wins the little drawing we are having on thursday.

daylight savings is still making me tired.

or maybe it's all of the planning i am doing.
wedding planning.
lesson planning.
and then there's my gym schedule planning.
and eating planning.
and sleeping planning.
and STEVEN planning.
{we're in love.}

invites.

kite.

gooooober

this little goober came to visit this week.  steven and i were able to pick her up from the grandparents on saturday afternoon.  we listened to the byu game on the way home {about an hour and fifteen minute drive}.  steven dropped us off at the mall then went home to watch the second half of the game.  he picked us up and we met emily and blake at color me mine.  we painted a cookie mug for andi.  it said "goober's beloved dessert" {her choice}. oh, and i made a cute ring stand that says "2.20.2011.  5.14.2011" on it {engagement and wedding dates} and there's a little kite painted on it. ah, cute!
when steven and i were in arizona, goober really wanted to go to golden spoon with us.  she knows how much i love that place.  unfortunately, the gs near them had closed, so we couldn't go.  after color me mine, steven and i told goobs we needed to stop at the grocery store.  then we got out and were running up the entrance when we stopped and said, "gooooolden spooon!" and we were right out front.  she was super excited.  and i was, too. because i love that place more than anything in the world.  okay, maybe just more than any dessert place in the world.  there are some things i love more.  like yoga. and salads.  and apples.  and steven. okay, okay! i love steven the most. i think steven and i made that pretty obvious to andi, too.

goober and i had a sleepover on the couches. she came to church with us {and the other 100 single college students in our ward} and then we headed back to layton for a wonderful dinner.  and it was so fun.

tomorrow is 54 days. erin & mike 20!!!

16 March 2011

it had to happen sometime.  and it was today.

a kid threw up in class. 9.15 am.  no warning.  we were just reading a story--i was reading, they were following along in their books at their desks.  then, "she just threw up."  and i looked.  and i saw.  and i buzzed the office.  and i walked "she" to the office--all chunky and smelly.

and i still love my job.

59 days. yes, we're in the 50's!

11 March 2011

today is a good day.

and for many reasons.

1) it's friday.
2) date night. {double tonight}
3) it is about 60 degrees!
4) the sun is shining!
5) i went to the gym at 5.25am
6) i spent time with katie.
7) i will see steven in about 10 minutes.
8) tomorrow morning i will go to yoga. then, steven and i are meeting up with some of his friends for breakfast.  going out to breakfast is one of my favorite things.
9) my windows are open!
10) and i drove with the windows rolled down.
11) i finally got the new taylor swift "speak now" cd from dana last weekend.  i can't stop listening to it.
12) steven and i are getting married so super soon.
13) i'm in love, i'm in love, and i don't care who knows it! {name that movie. it's from elf. but it's true for me.}
14) my health class was waived!!!!!! i'm GRADUATING in april!!! (not just walking and graduating in august)
15) the Lord loves me.  and blesses me.
16) my students are SO adorable. they asked if they can come to my wedding.  actually, they asked if it was in utah so they could go because california is too far. {and garrett, unfortunately, will be in arizona before our open house there. he was pretty bummed about that.  but, i think he might be more bummed that he can't be at erin's for her cookie bar. they have a little same birthday/love of cookies connection.}
17) mikalei called steven my fiancee today, rather than my fantaste {fawn-toss-tay} and she had this HUGE smile on her face when she said it.

10 March 2011

updates!

i ate steven's eye on sunday.
65 days.
what?!

last time i did a countdown like this was for my marathon.
which was amazing.

but my wedding will be even more amazing.  and the best part?  unlike my marathon, it will last FOREVER.
{steven and i don't really want to countdown, but my fellow paper moon-ers need to know!}

oh, and in 66 days we will be on a plane to florida.
and in 67 days we will be in the bahamas!!!

last thursday, i picked up my mom and dana from the airport.
we drove straight to bountiful where my dress was waiting!
and now it is being altered and i will get it in a few weeks!

mom, dana, and had a whole weekend of shopping and planning.

erin and mike are getting hitched in 30 days!!!

things are coming together!

oh, and on saturday i went to bed at 9.30pm.  i don't even get to bed that early on weeknights.  and i slept for 10.5 hours!!  i'm happy when i get 6 hours of sleep during the week.  it was a very nice night.

last night, i bought some white party pants.
{that's from the office, but i did buy these from gap. i love credit card reward gap gift cards and 45% off wednesdays. makes for free clothing for me and steven. i know, i'm so good. i spend my gift cards on things for him.}

and now for a funny thing one of my boys said:

first he picked a thorn from a plant.
"this is perfect for my science experiment!"

"what's your science experiment?"

"i am making a plant super-sizer!"

"really! how are you doing that?"

"well, i already made some and i put it on a plant and it grew 4 leaves!!"

it was hilarious.  and this isn't a nerdy kid.  his new year's resolution was to "get my baby brother more sciene-y."  and yes, this is the kid with half his body weight in his head when he was a baby.  he is hilarious.

02 March 2011

dr. seuss day!

today is dr. seuss day!!

possibly one of my favorite days ever, and for these reasons:

1) i didn't teach any lessons.
2) i read a lot to the class. my favorite.
3) it was quiet {for the most part} during the read-a-thon.
4) my kids were so dang excited and so dang cute!
5) the kids wore their pjs, brought pillows, blankets, and snacks.  i wore my loungey / yoga gear.
6) i am still the best teacher ever--even more than before.
7) "today was the best day ever!!"
"i thought halloween was, then thanksgiving day, then christmas, then valentines day, then the 100th day of school!"
"yeah but this is the best day ever, miss kendrick!! you make everyday the best day ever!! even the boring days you make the best day ever!!"
{yes, that was from my super excited about everything miranda.  she gave me like 4 hugs today. and she told me how her little brothers are "so jealous" that she gets to school.  to which i replied, "well, if i had a teacher like yours then i would be super jealous, too!!"}

we made these on monday.
aren't they adorable?
i had those hat and bowtie patterns for them to decorate and cut out, but i didn't know what to do with them!! but 10 minutes before they got back from the library, i figured it out!  and aren't they just the sweetest?

they we pretty much freaking out that the desks were pushed to the side.

note to teachers everywhere:
{if you haven't figured this out yet, then you need to.}
if you give your kids a snack, they will love you forever.
our dr. seuss day snack? pretzels and m&ms (no, not pretzel m&ms, em.  just pretzels & m&ms.)

blondie here has some difficulties reading.  so little brownie here read "hop on pop" to her!  now, there wasn't any talking, but he isn't such a great reader, but this book he can totally own.  and little blondie couldn't read it on her own, so i just had to let it slide!  and they were being quiet (surprise).

there is miss excited herself in the pink.  can't you just see that excitement?

01 March 2011

funny things at school today

i got this note:

                                    March 1 2011
Dear Miss Kendrik

   I like you.  You are nice.  I like to be whith you congagulashins on you geting ingajd.

Yor frend

Some of my students have more trouble spelling words (or looking around the room and copying them down) than others.  That's okay.  It still brightens my day!!!

And at recess...

Miss Kendrick, Justyn is burning a leaf!!

What?

Yeah, it's on fire!!

So, I walk over there.  Lo and behold, Justyn is crouched in the corner with a magnifying glass and is burning a leaf!!  I took the magnifying glass away and said, "What are you doing?  That is not a good choice.  And it really wouldn't be a good choice when the school was on fire."

And then he sulked in the corner the rest of recess.  Oh kids.
