erin in 3

a few items of business you should know about.

1. dana bought her camera. little canon rebel. well, not so little.
so add her to the blog list, there will be some good photos.
2. em put this picture on her blog last night.

christmas 06.
i wish this was the photo we sent out.
dad: natural.
mom: good thing it's been 3.5 years. you're better at it now.
word.
3. erin's coming late friday / early saturday.
if you know when
let me know then.
{rhymer--i think i'll start writing poetry.}

4. my 2nd graders gave me 4 picture books as a departing gift from practicum.
i read one to them.
then they got me this one with "silly dilly" songs.
funny words to familiar tunes, like take me out to the ballgame, now called take me out of the bathtub.
and i sang a few to them.

and they all made me cards.
and one said "you have a yong face"

and one was anonymous and said "i will miss you the most" {from the student who had to stay in 5 minutes at lunch or recess 80% of the time. poor kid. i guess he didn't mind too much.}

and one said,

"dear miss kendrick,
you rock. you are pretty too. you'r hair is cool. you'r alfits are pretty. you are so nice. you smell good.
love
sarah,
p.s i will miss the book we read."
[and then there were some hearts and the letters A B C. and the back said i will miss you so much!]

and my case study student drew a rainbow with a pot o' gold at each end. lucky me! and a leprechaun. and he wrote "I LIKE YOU!" on the inside.

truth comes out.

and good news: my 2nd practicum in may will be in the same class.

29 March 2010

smile.

take a good look at this face
what does it remind you of?

maybe miss kendrick?
well, it should. {but probably not}
because i am now officially Miss Kendrick.
{so maybe i should write this in a more professional manner, since i am now a professional. I HAVE A CAREER NOW.}

last night i didn't sleep.

well, more like i collectively had about 4 hours of sleep in a 6 hour time period.
because.
i had an interview today. 2 rooms of 14 people.
but i did it.
and i wasn't nervous. just anxious. and excited.
and i smiled the whole time
{mom. i've been smiling more since our chat yesterday morning.}

anyway, i left my math class a few hours after my interview nervous/anxious again. and then just minutes later i was walking down the long 101 steps by the rb when ring-a-ling, my phone rang!
and it was my principal, well the one at my practicum school.
and he offered me a job. well, an internship.
which means I will have my OWN 2nd grade class in the fall!

so please, call me Miss Kendrick.

and to celebrate--another late night.
only because i got some fro-yo and hot tubbed.
and now it's 10.35 and i have an assignment do by midnight.

and this is airin carrying a jeep door. and she carried it up 3 flights of stairs.
and i signed a contract with my dear friend katie today.

and some other good things have just been happening.

and life is so good right now.

and practicum ends tomorrow which means, less stress, but then finals are coming and papers are due, and i will probably most likely cry when i leave those little kids tomorrow.

but i am so happy.

and the best part:

ERIN IS COMING THIS WEEKEND!!!!!
and it is General Conference.
and we're going to marathon train together!
and be best friends in person! not via technology!

chopsticks

i still haven't mastered the art of eating with chopsticks.
not sure i ever will.
i only use them when i go to benihana (which is like once a year, maybe), gurus, and when my fam gets chinese take out (but i don't live at home anymore and come to think of it, the picker upper never picks up chopsticks. hmm.)

anyway, i am lacking in the chopstick area.

that is beside the point.

the point is:
the other day when corrie and i had taken jennie to gurus,
i said, "ha, there's a misspelled word on these chopstick instructions."
to which corrie replied, "there's a misspelled word on EVERY chopstick wrapper ever made. always." (or something to that effect.)
it was funny. and i laughed.
and i flipped the wrapper to the front. and found that interesting spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar mess.

my favorite part?
"...Chinese glonous history. and cultural"
what?

22 March 2010

happy bday dad!

best dad anyone could ask for.
[in my opinion]

i know no one who works harder for his family than he does.
and with the angel he chose for a wife, they make a dynamic duo.
hooray for dad.
especially when he comes and visits me!
[only 3 more months til he's back with the fam to watch erin and i in our first marathon]

21 March 2010

the sunday morning post, 22nd ed.

featuring:
photos from last weekend.

g.ma saw people ice fishing on this lake.
so she told my dad to pull over.
and we did.
{ps: look how cute my mom is [especially with her scarf around her head]}
then she started throwing snowballs.
go g.ma

the first of the statue pictures grandma had to take.
[park city]

families are forever

happy first day of spring.
and have a peaceful, restful Sabbath.
some Sunday reading &/or viewing.

20 March 2010

how do you do, 222?

things have been quite the crazy here.
{this is my g.ma's new favorite photograph. how cute is that?}

{one}
i didn't have school yesterday [which was fabulous].
so i spent the day i wanted to:
woke up early, went to the temple.
went to my meeting.
went on a run.
went to gurus {my favorite provo eatery}
with corrie and our new fabulous british friend jennie
who has been staying with us the past week. so sometimes i slip into a british accent. and think in a british accent. or i start saying things like "oh that's brill (or) mint"
and things like "oh he's a dish / dishy"
(but that i learned from miss erin. whom i miss terribly. and whom has a little baby girl i am dying to see. erin kendrick--please, let's save our money and go.)
oh, and did i mention she's a massage therapist and has offered to give us all free one-hour massages?
i think that will go very nicely with my long run today.

{two}
on friday's driving tour of provo [for g.ma] we were driving down university parkway by byu when we saw 2 deer prance across the road.
it was brill.
{yes, that was with a british accent}.

thursday while running,
2 deer pranced across the road.
then another 2 deer.
i ran with wide eyes and slowed down to watch them. and one went under a fence and the other couldn't figure it out and was staring at him like "uh, excuse me, bambi? there's a crazy girl running over here and you leave me here!?"
the two pictures above are courtesy of thomas mangelsen.
last weekend while in park city, we stopped into an art gallery with only his work.
pretty amazing. so real looking. all nature.
incredible shots. and i mean incredible.

{three}
miss dana emailed me this picture yesterday with this message:

remember when we cut this that one night? and then dad threw the other half under my bed?
yeah still there.

we wanted to leave our window open through the night over summer.
but since we live in a one-story home, we needed to have some sort of barrier so some crazy wouldn't try and break in.
so we went in the garage and sawed this pole in pieces. i'm sure it would have been quite amusing to watch since it was quite hilarious.
thank you for the picture, dana.
now please, go buy your camera and be a photographer.

17 March 2010

notes

happy st. patrick's day.
i wrote notes on shamrocks for each of my students.
found this on my desk this morning.

i melted.

weekend review

enjoy this picture until g.ma sends me all of hers. i didn't even break out my camera this weekend because g.ma is so good at capturing it all.
please excuse the sunday morning post's absence this past sunday.

mom, dad, and g.ma were here.

here's a brief summary of what we did.
{i have neither the time nor words to describe how fun and how needed it was.}

friday:
*{teaching}
*tour of my humble abode
*macaroni grill
*driving tour of byu/provo {for g.ma}
*little shopping {thanks, g.ma}
*early bed for g.ma
*sleepover with mom and dad

saturday:
*early rise to run 15 miles--most i've ever done. enjoyed every second of it. really. and erin enjoyed hers too.
*g.ma saw an add for village inn in the hotel book and really wanted to go there for breakfast. and when g.ma has an idea, she's going to do it! it's like an ihop or denny's. my omelette was good, so no complaints.
*drove up the canyon to park city
*saw people ice fishing, g.ma wanted to get out {it was snowing, but not blizzarding}. we took some pictures and g.ma started throwing snow balls. love her.
*stopped in heber city because g.ma wanted to look at an open house for some condos we drove by. heber city? how many people live there? oh well, i love going to open houses, and so does g.ma. and mom. and dad. but they weren't open.
*made it to park city. it snowed the entire time. and it was so beautiful. checked out all the shops on old main street. including the jewelers--that was fun.
*hit up the outlets. {again, thanks g.ma}. probably, no definitely a good thing j.crew outlet is 45 minutes away. too much temptation. and not enough money. which means, coveting.
*back to provo.
*mimi's cafe. it had been since village inn. minus the 3 apples and cliff bar i ate during the drives. {15 miles and no lunch? no bueno. and poor, poor planning on my part}
*early bedtime

sunday:
*salt lake for music and the spoken word. all of us loved it.
*went to Sacrament meeting in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building [used to be the Hotel Utah. absolutely gorgeous.]
*just so happened to attend Elder Ballard's ward. uh, cool. and yes, got to shake his hand afterward. there's something about shaking an Apostle of the Lord's hand. i've had the opportunity at least 5 times now. i just pray their Spirit will pour into me or some how get into my body through osmosis when our hands are in contact. and it just makes me want to be a better person.
*food
*tour of the Conference Center--that's my 3rd time going on a tour and like my 10th time in it--amazed every time
*leisure time at the hotel. crossword puzzles, byu.tv, nap, snacks, chats, phonics lesson practice
*bed. well, back to my apt in attempt to go to bed.

monday:
*farewell before teaching. sad.
*a few tears were shed.
*until marathon in june {unless someone wants to fly me out after finals april 21st! and hire someone to move my stuff.}

now back to life.
of course that was way longer than i intended. but i am not a woman of few words. and i type super fast. so two and two together, it's too much.

10 March 2010

one word

stress
photo via: flickr

but because i'm not a woman of few words, let's just chat.
1. i sent my mom a list of 15 things stressing me out right now.
she promptly responded with notes (in red) on each of them.
love her.

2. mom, dad, and g.ma will be here in less than 2 days.
don't think they could have come at a better time.
i need them.

3. i absolutely love being in a 2nd grade classroom.
i think i now know why i am supposed to be in el ed and not dietetics/nutrition.
i adore my kids. they adore me {and i say that in the least bragging way possible. but seriously, they're in 2nd grade. they love their teacher. and their byu student teacher.}

4. temple temple temple.

5. listening to past general conference addresses.
download/watch/listen to/read them here.
especially this one.
and if you're going to read that, you better watch this. a little preview.
{coincidence that right after i listened to elder bednar's talk sunday morning i watched this? i think not.}

07 March 2010

the sunday morning post, 21st ed.

*the sunday morning post is having difficulties this morning uploading pictures. please note: the dates are out of order. my apologies. it's the thought that counts, right?

march madness:

1. birthdays.

thursday, march 11th:
miss pitt.

alissa, my dear roommate, is quite amazing.
she keeps me sane {which, if you don't know by now, is much needed due to my constant freaking out about life}. she's an el ed major, too {hence the "miss pitt", because that's her name now} and together we make pretty cool things. like this.

friday, march 5th:
CLAIRE!

what can i say about claire?
she's one of my best friends.
i think i love her so much because my greatest adventures happen with her.
ny. dc. costa rica.

or maybe it's because we pose in front of cannon things at gettysburg.
maybe i love her so much because we share frrrrozen hot chocolates at serendipity.
or maybe it's because we take pictures on top of the rock [aka 30 rock] with the empire state building hazily standing in the background.
or maybe because she is so lucky and wins everything. like front row broadway tickets to wicked. and snuck up and got jasmine's autograph after les mis. [which, by the way, is amazing.]

{notice the girl in pink freaking out in the background because jasmine played cosette's mom who's name i forget}
or maybe i love her just because she's hard not to love. and she's a good good friend. and she cares about me. and doesn't think i'm super crazy.
see a few more pictures of us here.

wednesday, march 3rd:
airin

airin. you know that prayer / feeling of "please bless that my new roommate isn't crazy" when you move into a new place?
yeah, that's what i was praying for when i moved in this past august.
well, my prayers were answered and i was blessed. airin is fabulous. and she's going to be the best nurse in approximately one year. [right?]
and she's going to ghana in may! for her nursing.

monday, march 8th:
corrie

the girl with the most infectious laugh.
corrie's pretty cool. and she works at outback and comes home with some great stories. like some boys she met from manhattan that write musicals and bought us dinner.

and she makes some amazing cupcakes.
now, we all know how much i hate cake. like, absolutely despise it.
but i tried one of her's one time.
and it was good.

HAPPY BDAY to all of my friends.
i'm sorry you don't get your own day.
life is just a little bit too crazy right now.

2. katie and i went for an impromptu trip to alice in wonderland [3d].
scrounged up some money from my cupcake piggy bank [i guess it's not a piggy bank if it's a cupcake. and kind of ironic that i hate cake and yet my little piggy bank is a cupcake. but i bought it in dc [with claire] because it was just so cute and i wanted/needed a piggy bank.]
i've heard some mixed reviews. but i enjoyed it.
tim burton: you're crazy. and amazing. and i can always count on 3 things in your movies:
1. your wife [helena bonham carter]: probably crazier than you. and also amazing.
2. johnny depp: we like him.
3. danny elfman: musical genius. might be why i enjoy your movies so much.

3. practicum is amazing.
love my little 2nd graders.
i taught my first lesson on friday.
and i get observed tomorrow.
your prayers for me are welcome.

and they all drew a picture and welcomed me to their class.
love it.

4. mom, dad, and g.ma are coming friday!!!
