halloween weekend wrap up.

friday: no school!

i had the day off so i took the things that i wanted to do.

and this is what i did [in this order]:
[did not sleep in, okay i woke up at 6 instead of 5.30 so i guess i did for 30 minutes.]
temple
run/gym [no yoga classes, sad.]
long, hot shower & took my sweet time getting ready
Thanksgiving Pointe boutique shopping with Tedi
Halloween costume shopping [last minute] with Tedi
nap
grocery store
Halloween party

it was great

saturday was pretty normal: early rise, gym/yoga, clean, work, work, work.
but katie and i did hit up gurus. and they flooded my plate in sauce and so i felt sick after and just picked out the chicken and veggies in it and as of right now, my favorite thing and the only thing i ever get there does not sound appetizing in the least. hopefully next time someone wants to go i will want it.

we spent saturday evening at golden spoon then playing games with friends.
i did not want to dress up for the 3rd time this week.

here are pictures from friday night.
mimes. and flo from the progressive commercials. and our 50's mad men but they just looked cute.

and of course church was FABULOUS today.
i'm going to an old folk's home with some friends in a few minutes.
should be exciting.

and this 5 hours of sleep thing every night this week just isn't working out for me,
and unfortunately i can't take a nap today. oh well!
i'm still a little bit obsessed with life!

happy halloween

happy halloween.

tribute to buckman

sweet Promise just made this little tribute to buckman and put it on youtube. here.

i haven't really shed too many tears over it.  partly because i'm so busy, partly because i haven't been home, partly because between friday and monday i've almost always been in a big group of people.

thanks prom-dawg!! love you!

halloween. 2nd grade style.

here are my sweet little witches, zombies, dragons...

{from left to right}

football player, Hiccup [How to Train Your Dragon--still want to see that], tiger, flapper [she says 20's dancer], ballerina, zombie

 half angel/half devil, witch, wizardess [obviously casting a spell here], Jedi Knight, dragon [from How to Train Your Dragon]

witch, Glinda [Wicked], Vampiress, Link [some elf from a video game. he looked cute], Grimm Reaper, Mario

Batman, pirate, alien [he couldn't wear his mask/head thing so his mom did all of that this morning--looked so good. "Miss Kendrick!  I scared five 6th graders!!"], Dorothy [I was going to be Dorothy and my team was going to be the other characters.], fortune teller

the whole gang

so what were my team and i dressed up as?

ever heard of Roald Dahl's book The Witches
[i've read it like 6 times.  and erin and i read a little bit to each other last august when i was coming back to school.  i did a norwegian accent for the grandma.  yeah, so good.]

well, we are all reading it to our 2nd grade classes, so we dressed up like witches.  the thing about the witches in this book is that they look like ordinary women.  EXCEPT, they wear long gloves to cover up their claw fingernails, and wigs and hats to hide their bald heads, and they have blue spit and great big nostrils! i also wore my black pointy toe boots and black tights.  the kids loved it.  and the other 2nd grade teachers looked so good too!

today was SO fun.  my room mother's planned a FABULOUS party--cake walk center, art/craft center, craziest costume dress up center, toilet paper mummy center.  it was great.  and i didn't have to plan any of it--i just took pictures [with the crummy cramra {that says camera} and voted on craziest costume after each of the fashion shows.

we also watched monsters inc during recess, lunch, and after lunch during a little art thing {yes, i am so nice and let them stay in so they wouldn't freeze/mess up their costumes. and i was observed this morning with a halloween interactive writing that went fabulously well.

then the whole school does a halloween parade and all of the parents come.

the day was exhausting, but...

i LOVE halloween, 2nd grade style.

it snowed...

it snowed...
it snowed last night
{song: It Snowed  by meaghan smith}

{as usual, excuse the poor photo quality.  the phone just doesn't do justice...ever.  but, new camera will debut at christmas.}

it snowed the past 2 days in the mountains.
timp is covered from the waist up.

i guess it snowed during the day yesterday, but i was inside the school.
the roomies {+ tedi.  you can always just assume tedi is included in "roomies".} and i got back around 9. i tried on my costume for them, opened the door to go show tedi and yelled,
"it's snowing!!!"
the first snow is always exciting.

pictures of my adorable 2nd graders in their costumes to come.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!

i'll miss you.

fall dog forever.

witches/fall leaves/sick&beef/eyes/bucky/schedules

first, remember when i said one of my sweet little girls brought me a card with an eraser taped to it?  well, here is the inside of the card.

witches
we made shape witches on friday.
this is my nice little mess as i was making a sample while the kiddos were at music.

and here are 2 that my students gave me.
they are on my fridge.

fall leaves
it's been rainy all weekend.  i love it.
i have a love/hate relationship with it.
love: it's magical and a change from the dryness and heat.
hate: i can't run.  [well, i can. but that was hardcore marathon mania training {/ remember how i ran the first 13 miles of my marathon in the pouring rain? yeah. done.}  and i am so over running in blizzards and rain. a little snow is okay with me.]
also hate it if it drags on and i can't see the sun.  and it means snow.
love: thunderstorms.
but this wasn't a thunderstorm.
now that i have a gym pass, the rain is MUCH more welcome.  and the snow too.  that was in no way a wish, though.

also, you probably know that one of my favorite things about fall is the changing leaves.  this is right outside of my apartment.  isn't that pretty? [except that it's taken on my lame phone.]

sick & beef
during school friday i got this horrible head cold.  it didn't feel sinus-y or headache-y.  just faint, fatigued, and tired.  which is weird because i had gotten 7.5 hours of sleep--that's a weekday record (plus i never even got that much during fall break!).

so i left school at 4pm after having to talk with my facilitator, the special ed resource teacher, and planning with the 2nd grade teacher.  my classroom is a mess.  well, kinda a mess. i just picked up my bags and left.  i talked to my mom on the way home and received some really sad news.  and then i cried for 2 minutes in my car, walked up to my apartment and katie asked me how i was.  i told her my sad news and she gave me a big hug.  then i ate a banana and took a 2 hour nap.

anyway, friday night i just didn't feel like doing anything.
tedi took me to golden spoon for a date before i went grocery shopping with her.
and i found this HUGE thing of ground beef.  absolutely disgusting.
my head was hurting again.
i woke up saturday morning and felt great and did a pretty intense workout before hitting the yoga mat for an amazing yoga class.  well, at the end of my workout my head was hurting again. i pretty much only feel good for the first 2 hours after i wake up.

eyes
along with this horrible head stuff, my eye has been red.  not pink eye, no. but i can't wear my contacts, well i can but only for a little. so i did to the football game yesterday (which the cougs won).
i put the iphoto on bulge so you could get a great look at me eye. and you can't tell too much there, but it's sick.
 i woke up feeling great today and still do. probably because i've been pumping the vitamin c and vitamin d. no over-the-counter stuff. i hate it.  sleep, C & D, water, exercise {but don't do the latter if you really are sick, actually--just listen to your body. body language.}.
i took a nap after church.  that means i napped friday, saturday, and sunday!!! i'm going to be great this week!

bucky
i want to cry just looking at this picture and typing his name.
the sad news i received from my mom on friday is that bucky is dying.
for anyone who's ever lost a pet they know how sad it is.
i'm not talking like a goldfish.  i'm talking a dog that's been in the family for 10 years.

 this is sad me over bucky.
{k i was just playing on iphoto, but this is what i look like when i'm sad.  or just staring...}

i don't really want to talk about it because it makes me really sad.  i haven't really been around bucky much the past 2 years {except when i was home 4 months last summer} and i'm just so sad that i can't actually be there with him.  my family tells me that he just wants to be pet now.  he doesn't get up or eat or anything.
okay, i'm stopping there {for my sake}.

schedules
this is usually my face sunday nights
it says, "oh i have SO much to do this week."

this is my plan book (half of it)
the boxes only have 2 words in them.  that means i still need to plan the lesson.
which means the week nights are crazy.
endless cycle.
my facilitator said i'm in the land of never done.
true story.
parent teacher conferences this week, which means: no school friday!!
which means: gym in the morning and day date with tedi in the afternoon!!!

also, please note the progress of the side bangs.
they're growing.
i like 'em.
welcome back.

squash.

i have been thinking about this little squash post for awhile, and have even mentioned it's coming.
alas, the wait is over {if you were even waiting}.

it's fall.
and fall brings in some of my favorite things: winter squash and soup!

here's a sweet little picture of some of the things i have stocked in my pantry right now.
butternut squash, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, canned pumpkin, roasted red pepper & tomato soup, spicy black bean soup {not pictured: a pie pumpkin, so i can make my own pumpkin!}
i'll start with the soups: Pacific Natural Foods soups.
the roasted red pepper & tomato has been a long time favorite.
also good: butternut squash soup, cashew & carrot, and spicy black bean {tried for the first time yesterday--spicy, but so good! perfect to eat in small amounts to warm the heart & soul.}.  those are all of the ones i've tried--the others also look and sound delicious.

go buy some.
trader joes also makes these same soups-- also delish.

first stop:

pumpkin
i've expressed my true obsession with pumpkin many times.

pumpkin loves:

pumpkin pie yogurt
1/2 cup plain yogurt {unsweetened}
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
add a few drops of stevia {if you're into that. or just use sugar.}
sprinkle on some cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger {pumpkin pie spice.}
or just cinnamon.

pumpkin pie oatmeal
pumpkin pie crepes
{see bottom here}
for those i just add my pumpkin pie yogurt on top {crepes} or mix it in {oatmeal--cook first then mix in and pop back in the microwave for a minute}

pumpkin chocolate chip bread & cookies

and of course...
pumpkin pie Golden Spoon
{get it with graham cracker or cheesecake or solo!!}
pumpkin pie
with fresh whipped cream
--bday, turkey day, and christmas!!--
i like to keep it special.
and maybe one other time.
{oh, and one year we went to cheesecake factory for my bday and i got a piece of pumpkin cheesecake---so good!!! it was like all of the goodness of pumpkin pie and cheesecake in one!}

next up:

spaghetti squash
a new favorite as of this year.
i have it 5 times a week.
just follow the cooking instructions on the sticker.
it really tastes like spaghetti!

so far i have mixed it with pasta sauce and teriyaki/asian/ginger sauce & dressing mixture.  i've also eaten it with a smidgen of butter, salt, & pepper. it has a really good taste on it's own, too!

buy it. make it. you won't regret it.
{less calories and so much better for you than actual pasta.
not to mention the health benefits of all in the winter squash family}

then:

butternut squash

i love making {or buying} butternut squash soup.
try this sweet recipe from ina garten, or this one looks really good too.
the other day i tried to make butternut squash chips with this recipe, but i didn't get them dry enough, so it ended up turning out like a potato i sauteed in a pan {but sweeter and muuuuch healthier}. then i put the leftovers in a salad the next day. SO GOOD.

finally:

acorn squash
i've only had it once.
but tedi and i bought some for 68 cents each the other day. we're making them tonight!

halve 'em and stick 'em in the oven to roast at 350 for about 45 minutes.
i think it's good just like that, but people like to add brown sugar to it.

that's all for now.

send me your favorite recipes and tips for winter squash!
